His stride was long and sure. Without hurry. And when he reached the end of the hallway, he reached out for the doorknob and winked out of existence with a splash of light. Slightly before the runner vanished, the runner appeared at the beginning of the hallway, his hand still outstretched, his eyes focused on the doorknob that was now, again, at the other end of the hallway. His eyes downcast, he didn’t see himself in the split-second before his other self disappeared.
